Home service booking software should let a customer pick a job, see a price that matches that job, choose a real time, and book. The right product depends on whether you need an operating system for a crew, or a checkout that turns a website visit into a priced appointment.
This is a comparison, not a ranking of one winner. MagicBooker is one of the tools below. It is the better fit when the price depends on what the customer selects. Jobber, Housecall Pro, and ServiceM8 are the better fit when you need quoting, scheduling, invoicing, and a crew in one system.
What home service booking software should do
A useful shortlist covers five jobs. Skip a product that only does one of them if that one job is not the bottleneck in your day.
- Capture the details that change the price, not a blank message box.
- Show a price the customer can understand before they call.
- Offer times you can actually work, not a wish list.
- Take a deposit or full payment when that is how you hold the slot.
- Put the booking somewhere you can see it, without a second spreadsheet.
The short version
| Tool | Choose it when |
|---|---|
| MagicBooker | The customer has to configure the job before you can price it, and you want that to end in a booked time and a payment. |
| ZenBooker | You want online booking with live prices from service options, plus quotes, invoices, and territories in one home-service product. |
| Jobber | You want quoting, scheduling, invoicing, and client management for a field-service company, including a crew. |
| Housecall Pro | You want a similar field-service stack, with online booking, quotes, invoices, and dispatch. |
| ServiceM8 | You want job management priced mainly by how many jobs you run, with online booking that can show a price and a time. |
| Acuity Scheduling | The appointment itself is the product, and you need intake questions and payment on a scheduling page. |
| Calendly | You need a simple scheduling link for meetings or fixed appointments, not a job quote. |
Prices on Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceM8, Acuity, and Calendly change with plan, team size, and billing term. Check each vendor’s pricing page before you buy. MagicBooker’s public plan is $49 a month. Details are on the pricing page.
MagicBooker
MagicBooker is a service checkout. The customer answers the questions that change the job, sees the price from your rules, picks a time from your hours, and can pay a deposit or the full amount through your Stripe account. You embed that checkout on the site you already have, or send a link.
That path fits TV mounting, home theater, smart home, CCTV, cleaning, furniture assembly, detailing, and similar work. A 65-inch set on a fireplace with cable concealment is a different job from a 43-inch set on drywall. The checkout is meant to know the difference. See the TV mounting page for one example.
It is a poor fit if you need dispatch, GPS, job costing, two-way texting, and a full client hub. MagicBooker does not try to be that system. Read the Jobber alternatives guide if you are deciding between an operations platform and a checkout.
If the price depends on the customer’s choices, try MagicBooker and build the first checkout around one common job.
ZenBooker
ZenBooker is online scheduling built for mobile home services. Customers can see a price that updates from the options they pick, choose a time, and book. It also covers estimates the customer can schedule, invoices, territories, and a hosted booking page. Cleaning businesses use it for home size, add-ons, and extras.
Choose ZenBooker when you want that booking product plus more of the back office, such as invoicing and reminders, in the same tool. MagicBooker’s narrower job is the checkout itself: configure, price, time, pay. A closer look is in the ZenBooker alternative article.
Jobber
Jobber is field service software: quotes, scheduling, invoicing, online booking, payments, and a client record. Official feature pages describe quotes customers can review, and online booking that can put a job on the schedule. Plan prices on third-party roundups vary with user count and monthly versus annual billing. Use Jobber’s pricing page for the number you would actually pay.
Jobber is the better tool when the hard part of the day is running jobs for a team, not getting the first price onto the website. You do not have to pick it against MagicBooker as if only one of them can exist. Some businesses outgrow a checkout and later want the operating system. Some never need the operating system.
Housecall Pro
Housecall Pro sells online booking, quotes, invoices, scheduling, and review tools. Its pricing page is the source of truth and currently advertises plans from $59 a month when billed annually. Extra users and add-ons cost more. It is aimed at businesses that schedule and dispatch technicians, not only at publishing a quote.
Treat it as a Jobber peer. If your office already lives in texts, invoices, and a route, Housecall Pro is in the conversation. If the leak is “how much is it?” on the website, a checkout may solve the leak with less software.
ServiceM8
ServiceM8 is another operations product. On its US pricing page, plans are tied to how many jobs you run, and online booking is described as letting a client get a price, pick a time, and book. The app experience has historically been strongest on iPhone and iPad. Confirm the current job limits and apps on ServiceM8’s pricing page before you compare cost with a per-user product.
Acuity Scheduling and Calendly
Acuity, now part of Squarespace, is appointment software with intake questions and the option to take payment when someone books. It is a strong choice for services that are mostly a time slot plus a few questions, such as a standard visit with a fixed or simple price.
Calendly is a scheduling link. It is excellent when the meeting is the product. It is the wrong primary tool when wall type, square footage, or vehicle size changes the price. That distinction is spelled out in the Calendly alternative article.
How to choose
- If customers call because they cannot see a price, start with a checkout or a booking tool that prices from their answers.
- If the price is usually the same and the problem is the calendar, start with Acuity or Calendly.
- If you are already drowning in crews, invoices, and reminders, start with Jobber, Housecall Pro, or ServiceM8.
- If you want live online prices and also want invoicing and territories in one home-service product, put ZenBooker on the shortlist.
Why the price rules matter
A booking button with one flat price fails when the job is not flat. Two TVs, a brick wall, and a cable concealment are not the same work as a single mount on drywall. Cleaning a two-bed apartment is not the same as a deep clean with an oven. The software has to ask those questions or you are back on the phone. How that flow is built is covered in how to add instant quotes.
Questions people ask
What is home service booking software?
It is the tool a customer uses to request, price, or schedule a home service online, and the place you manage that request. Some products stop at the appointment. Others run the whole company.
Do I need booking software if I already use a calendar?
Only if the calendar is not the bottleneck. If the bottleneck is quoting, a calendar link will not answer “how much?”
Where to start
Pick the product that matches the step you keep doing by hand. If that step is configuring the job, showing the price, and taking the booking, look at MagicBooker’s checkout and start a trial.
